WORK is finally underway to restore the Phoenix Park to its former glory after the recent concerts there.
The reinstatement of the grounds, which is estimated will take from four to six weeks (weather permitting), got underway almost two months after the controversial Swedish House Mafia gig which was held on July 7.
According to the OPW (Office of Public Works), a substantial amount of work has been done to date on the grounds.
“The contractors are on site this week and our primary objective is to reinstate the grounds, then re-seeding will take place and the hoarding will be removed,
? a spokesperson told Northside People.
The repair works will be financed with a bond that was provided to the OPW by concert promoters MCD prior to the gigs.
The spokesperson advised that if the damage exceeds the amount of the bond, MCD would be billed for the additional monies.
Meanwhile, the dust is also settling on the controversy surrounding the security and policing of the Swedish House Mafia concert.
It’s expected that representatives from the OPW, MCD and Dublin City Council will attend the next meeting of the Dublin Central Joint Policing Committee this Thursday, September 6, to discuss events at the concert.
The gardai released a statement last week to explain how they have been working with MCD to carry out an in-depth review of the controversial gig.
“Despite the considerable efforts of An Garda SÃochána and MCD Productions, who undertook an extensive security operation at the Swedish House Mafia event at Phoenix Park, a very small percentage of 0.5 per cent of individuals intent on causing trouble did engage in anti-social behaviour on July 7, 2012,
? stated a Garda spokesperson.
“An Garda SÃochána and MCD condemn all acts of anti-social behaviour and will continue to work together to minimise the risk of a reoccurrence of such behaviour, and to develop further robust protocols regarding procedures, and to fully implement the lessons which are being learned by both parties from this in-depth review, to ensure a safe secure and enjoyable environment for all concertgoers attending future events.

Enhanced policing and security measures were put in place for the recent concerts at Marley Park which passed off peacefully without major incident.
