AS part of Heritage Week 2012, a local town council is launching the archived minutes of all official meetings since 1860.

The minutes of the Balbriggan Town Council meetings have been scanned and will be available online for people interested in finding out more about Balbriggan heritage and the rich history of the town.

Leas Cathaoirleach of Balbriggan Town Council, Cllr Peader O’Kelly, will launch the initiative in Balbriggan Town Hall at 6pm this Thursday, August 23.

Balbriggan Town Council’s official website already provides details of local news and events along with information about the town and local amenities.

The website also provides information on Balbriggan Town Council, its elected members, services and facilities.

Balbriggan Town Clerk, Brian Murray, said they have been working on the archive project for a number of years.

“We are launching the service in conjunction with Fingal County Council’s Archives Section of libraries,

? stated Mr Murray.

“We now have all of the documents scanned and uploaded to our website balbriggan.ie and they will be available as part of the National Heritage Week celebrations.

“We will officially launch the archive initiative on August 23 and would welcome everyone with an interest in heritage to come along and celebrate the history of Balbriggan with us.

Balbriggan started out by being represented by Town Commissioners and was developed into Balbriggan Town Council when Local Government legislation changed.
