Relief after water ban lifted in Clontarf

CLONTARF Residents’ Association has told of its relief after water restrictions in their area were lifted last week.

The residents of 1,400 homes in the St Lawrence’s area of Clontarf have had to boil their drinking water for over two weeks. There was a period when they couldn’t consume the water at all.

The restrictions were put in place after high levels of coliform bacteria were detected in the water supply.

However, last week Dublin City Council announced that the water problem has been fully resolved.

They said leaflets would be delivered to all the residents affected in the St Lawrence District Meter Area (DMA).

A spokesperson for the city council said:

“The water restrictions were imposed to protect public health.

“We recognise the inconvenience that these restrictions have caused.

“We apologise for the inconvenience and we thank those affected for their co-operation and patience.

The spokesperson added:

“In particular, we thank those affected for the courtesy and support they have shown to our tanker crews, water services staff and central laboratory staff as they worked to resolve the problem.

Deirdre Tobin of Clontarf Residents’ Association believes the city council could have kept residents updated on a more regular basis.

She said people affected will not be satisfied until a detailed assessment is issued, informing residents of how exactly the problem came about.

“It was very inconvenient,

? Ms Tobin told Northside People.

“We’d be interested to know how often the council carry out tests on our water supply and find out exactly how it came about.

“This issue should be a lot more transparent and more detailed information is needed.

Ms Tobin feels it is important for the council to inform them of the current conditions of the water pipes in the area.

“We were fortunate to have the water tankers parked near our home, but we had to buy a lot of water too,

? she added.

“The council should issue more details on their website to let us know how this happened and what will be done in future to prevent it from happening again.
