NORTHSIDERS are been urged on to assist their elderly neighbours with the upcoming digital television changeover.
The call came following the recent launch of SAORVIEW’S
‘Let’s Get Connected’ campaign, which aims to highlight the fact that not all elderly people may be comfortable with the technicalities surrounding the switch.
However, research conducted by SAORVIEW found that people with digital TV are already more than willing to lend a helping hand to others in their local communities.
SAORVIEW have stressed that those who could be affected by the switch may be older, living alone or living in isolated rural areas.
Lending their support to the campaign, TV personalities such as Derek Mooney, Marty Whelan, Sinead Kennedy and Nuala Carey will be supporting the campaign through an ongoing television promotion prior to the changeover on October 24.
Speaking about the campaign’s purpose, Mary Curtis, Director of Digital Switchover, said:
“This is an important phase of the campaign as the advice of a trusted family member or friend with good local knowledge will ensure those who may want some extra help are given the practical advice they need in making the switch to SAORVIEW.
“It’s so easy to help and the reality is that we all have someone in our lives that will be affected by the digital switchover in October,
? stated Ms Curtis.
“Television is one of the most important ways in which we stay connected to the world at large.
“SAORVIEW has been working closely with both Muintir na TÃre, Macra na Feirme and Energy Action as part of a volunteer helper programme with great success.
“The SAORVIEW Let’s Get Connected campaign is a natural extension to the outreach work that is already going on and reminds us that we can all play our part in helping the country switch to digital.

To be ready for SAORVIEW, households with an aerial must purchase a SAORVIEW-approved set top box that can be connected to an existing television or they can buy a new SAORVIEW-approved television.
Households that are already subscribed to a digital television service, such as SKY or UPC, will still need to check if any televisions in their homes are dependent on the aerial service, as they too will need to be enabled to receive digital television.
