AN ANTI-household tax campaigner has urged Southsiders to stand their ground in the face of legal threats over non-payment of the
?¬100 charge.
The call comes as the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA), which is collecting payment of the tax, indicated last week that it was sending out a second raft of letters to homeowners who have not yet paid.
The LGMA has warned that it will be forced to issue legal proceedings against those who fail to comply with a third letter.
Cllr Louise Minihan, who is a member of the socialist republican political group Eirigi, defiantly urged householders to bin any letters issued by the LGMA.
“I urge all those who have refused to pay the home tax to hold firm and keep up the boycott,
? she said.
“The Government is on the ropes on this issue.
“To those who have paid the home tax for 2012, I would ask them to join the boycott in 2013. It is never too late to take a stand against injustice.

She added:
“Anyone who is opposed to home and water taxes should become actively involved in the campaign. Together we can force the Government to abandon the home tax and their plans for future unjust property and water taxes.

A spokesperson at the Department of Environment said it was
“highly irresponsible
? for an elected representative to encourage householders not to pay the charge.
A spokesperson for the LGMA declined to respond to the comments made by Cllr Minihan.
