Council moves to erase confusing road markings

SOUTH Dublin County Council has said it will remove confusing directional road markings that have caused anxiety among motorists.

Deputy Sean Crowe (SF) said motorists who use the Katherine Tynan Road that links the Belgard Road with Citywest have been confused by directional arrows painted on the surface of the road.

“This newly opened route has a bus lane with traffic going both ways and painted arrows that were put in on a temporary basis but which can still be seen and need to be properly erased,

? he said.

“One of the series of arrows is pointing the wrong way on the meridian and this is confusing to drivers unfamiliar with the new road set up.

He added:

“Cars are driving on the wrong side of the road and it is only a matter of time before an accident occurs.

A spokesperson for the council said:

“We appreciate the concerns of Deputy Crowe in the matter and we apologise to motorists for any confusion that may have arisen.

The spokesperson said the markings in question were painted as part of traffic management measures while the ESB carried out upgrade works on overhead lines adjacent to the road.

“When these works were finished, the arrows were burnt off and the road painted black. Due to wear and tear however, it seems the black paint has recently worn off and the shadows of the arrows have reappeared,

? she said.

“The council’s roads department will address the matter straight away, and remove the shadows permanently.
