TWO Blackrock sisters who form an acoustic indie folk duo are releasing a brand new album this year.
Twins Ellie and Louise McNamara (22), formed five years ago in Dublin and produced their first album
‘Here, Not There’ in 2008 while studying for their Leaving Certificate.
This year the girls, who call themselves
‘Heathers’, are touring Ireland in a bid to promote their new album.
In September, the girls will play headline shows in Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Galway and Limerick.
They will also play the Electric Picnic after their hugely successful gig there in 2010.
The girls’ first album soared to gold sales status, with their most notable song
‘Remember When’ catapulting them into the limelight.
The song was used on a TV and radio ad campaign by Discover Ireland.
Speaking to the Southside People about their forthcoming album,
‘Kingdom’, Ellie McNamara said fans can expect something much more upbeat than their first album.
“The album is a lot more progressive than what we’ve done before,
? she said.
“We were both 17 when our first album came out so we’ve learned so much since then. There’s a lot of catchy numbers on the album, and it’s more fuller and poppier than the last one.
?
Ellie said both herself and her sister have been writing songs for the album over the past couple of years.
Speaking about the Heathers upcoming shows, she said,
“We can’t wait. It’s been so long since we’ve played. We’ve been getting great feedback about the album so we’re really looking forward to its release.
?
In their early years, the girls featured in the 2008 film
‘Roll Up Your Sleeves’, directed by Dylan Haskins.
The documentary is based on do-it-yourself counter-culture.
It began by focusing on non-profit all ages gigs in Ireland. It was made free online following huge international media attention.
In anticipation of their forthcoming album, the McNamara sisters have begun posting preview videos of songs online.
‘Forget Me Knots’ is the first single from the second album – due to be released on September 7.
