JUNIOR doctors at St James’s Hospital didn’t let a bit of rain get in the way of their enthusiasm for the upcoming Liberties Fun Run that was launched at the Irish Museum of Modern Art last week.
The fourth annual 6.5km road race will take place on Thursday, July 19 at 7.45pm. It will start and finish in the grounds of the Irish Museum of Modern Art/Royal Hospital Kilmainham.
The fun run route will take in a circuit of the Liberties that will include the Guinness Storehouse, the Coombe, Christchurch, St Patrick’s Cathedral, St James’s Gate and St James’s Hospital.
The hospital’s Department of Physiotherapy will conduct the pre-race warm-up and provide post-race massages for all participants. Last year’s race attracted almost 750 athletes.
The women’s race was won by the Metro St Brigid’s Athlete, Kate O’Neill, who recorded a time of 22:27. The men’s race was won by Sean Hehir of Rathfarnham AC in a time of 18:47. The St James’s Hospital Liberties Fun Run is part of this year’s Liberties Festival programme.

The St James’s Hospital Liberties Fun Run is arranged by the hospital’s foundation, supported by the Irish Museum of Modern Art, and is aimed at raising funds for St James’s.
The event is funded by locally based companies Diageo and Momentum Support, ensuring that all entry fees and all sponsorship raised by participants are contributed to the development of the hospital.
A new clinical research centre is currently under construction and a Centre of Excellence for Successful Ageing is planned. All around the hospital various specialties have ambitious plans for development of their services.
St James’s Hospital is a teaching hospital of Trinity College Dublin. The hospital foundation processes donations for the hospital and fundraises to enhance the facilities, education and environment for leading edge research and innovation, which will translate into world-class care for all patients of St James’s Hospital.
