THE call has gone out for locals across Ballymun to get involved in this year’s Tidy Towns competition.
Volunteers have been out and about in force in recent weeks, taking on some of the more unkempt areas of the suburb in an effort to better their score in the prestigious competition.
They have been very busy preparing for this summer’s activities and in particular they are running a number of local area competitions to help their entry in this year’s National Tidy Towns event.
Ballymun Tidy Towns has entered the competition for the past six years and have improved their overall score each year.
The local summer competitions aim to create a clean, attractive litter free environment and encourage community involvement and environmental awareness throughout the local area.
A major area of focus is on tackling litter and tidiness issues in Ballymun, but the Tidy Towns team is also working on many other initiatives to help make Ballymun a clean, green and safe place to live, work and visit.
They are also working on initiatives such as landscaping improvements to derelict open spaces, cleaning up ugly buildings, shop fronts and sites, volunteer clean ups and staging other activities, acting on the provision of environmental grants, the promotion of healthy walk ways such as the Sli na Slainte’s, encouraging nature/biodiversity, green schools and environmental education, and operating recycling and reuse initiatives.
Ballymun Tidy Towns is inviting entrants from individuals and areas, from businesses and organisations to enter one or more of the summer competitions.
The message is
‘Get Involved’. If you live or work in Ballymun then enter at least one of the competitions.
It’s free to enter and there are numerous great prizes for each competition.
