SCHOOL kids from across the Southside joined up for a unique educational and fundraising programme called Hands Up for Haiti recently.

Third class and sixth class pupils from Rathfarnham National School and student teachers from Froebel gathered with others from St Andrews in Blackrock at the Ark Temple Bar for the event.

Irish charity Haven introduced Hands Up for Haiti to highlight the importance for Irish children to learn about the daily lives of their Haitian counterparts.

It sets out to help them understand the differences and similarities they share and most importantly, how they can make a real difference by working together as a classroom team.

The event in the Ark featured Clowns for Haiti who performed song and dance with the children and completed sketches related to Haiti, the earthquake, and the poverty experienced by thousands of children in the small island country.

However, it not only aims to educate Irish kids on why Haiti and Haitian children are in need but also aims to empower them to actively make a difference to their lives.

Also present, to pick up some future tools for their trade were 16 Froebel student teachers who will be able to utilise

‘Hands Up for Haiti’ to educate their future students.

They are encouraging other schools to het involved by contacting Aoife in Haven on (01) 6815449 or by email aoife.redmond@havenpartnership.com
