St Helen’s pupils celebrate quiz triumph

AN air of tension and excitement hung over the main hall of the RDS recently as 100 teams of school children from across the country battled it out in the grand final of the 21st All Ireland Credit Union Schools Quiz.

Under the watchful eye of quizmaster Marty Whelan, the calls of encouragement from nervous parents, grandparents, teachers and supporters where quickly hushed as the teams got down to serious business. The nail-biting final ended in a tie-breaker with St Helen’s Senior National School, Portmarnock and Scoil Chaoimhin Naofa, Hollywood, Blessington, emerging victorious as joint winners.

St Helen’s, Baldoyle & Portmarnock Credit Union manager Sharon Friel said they were delighted with their success.

“Everyone at Baldoyle & Portmarnock Credit Union would like to wish Team A congratulations for bringing home the winning prize to Portmarnock – what an amazing achievement,

? she stated.

“We would like to thank all the schools and faculty involved in this year’s quiz.

Principal of St Helen’s Senior National School, Mary O’Leary, said:

“All the pupils and faculty at St Helen’s are thrilled with this win and we proudly display the trophy for all to see.

“Huge credit goes to teacher John Kelly whose Trojan efforts helped prepare the pupils so well for the quiz. He devotes so much of his time along with the pupils who gave up many lunchtimes to study and share information in the lead up to the local and regional stages and then the final.
