Little Lindsey’s a lifesaver!

YOUNG Northside schoolgirl Lindsey Adie has been praised for her
quick thinking and heroic efforts, which saved the life of her elderly
grandmother who recently collapsed and fell unconscious.

The bond between seven-year-old Lindsey and
83-year-old Kathleen Lee has been cemented after Kathleen’s brush with death
last month.

Lindsey is the youngest grandchild of the Finglas
local who is still shaken and recovering from her dramatic collapse in her home
on February 16.

Luckily Lindsey, who readily accepts she’s a hero, was
on a sleep-over at her grandmother’s that day and was able to phone for help
using a mobile she got from Santa.

“I was in the sitting room colouring when Nana came in
saying she felt very hot,

? said the first-class pupil of Corpus Christi school
in Drumcondra.

“She sat down and then stood up again to go out when
she collapsed and banged her head against a glass case and then a side table
that broke in half.

“I didn’t know what was happening. I was very
frightened and I thought she was dying because her face was snow white.

“My Daddy always told me that if anything ever happens
to call them so I did with the phone I got from Santa.

“I kept trying to talk to my Nana and I put a blanket
over her to keep her warm because she was shivering.

Lindsey’s parents rushed to the house and an ambulance
quickly arrived on the scene.

Kathleen, who has a pacemaker and had a stint fitted
after she suffered a heart attack shortly before Christmas, collapsed due to
very low blood pressure.

She was kept in hospital for three days for
observation due to the head injury she suffered as a result of the fall.

“I’m still very shaken up after it,

? said Kathleen who
has to use heavy make-up to conceal the bruising on her face.

“Only for Lindsey being there when it happened I don’t
think I’d be here today.

“I was out cold and she really saved my life because
my husband wouldn’t have come into the room for at least an hour.

“She’s an amazing little girl and it’s remarkable that
she knew what to do and didn’t panic.

“Although, she definitely got the biggest fright of
all of us.

“I knew something was wrong because when I’m really
sick, like just before I had my heart attack, I feel very hot. I don’t get
aches or pains, I just feel hot.

Lindsey’s proud mum Paula recalled how she expected
the worst when she got the terrifying call from her young daughter.

“I expected to find Mam dead but Lindsey was there
keeping her warm and trying to wake her up,

? Paula explained.

“We’re so proud of how she reacted. She’s very mature
and she even went out to direct the ambulance to the house. She’s wonderful and
I think the bond between my Mam and her is stronger now than ever.
