PUPILS of a Northside school showed off their computer
skills last month to a host of local politicians and officials from Intel
computer firm.
St Finbarr’s Boy’s National School in Cabra displayed
their PC talents on 30 laptops and two laptop trolleys they recently won as
part of Intel’s e-planning competition.
To celebrate the pupils’ win, local representatives
and dignitaries were invited to the school where the youngsters proudly
demonstrated how proficient they were with modern technology.
The school won top prize in Intel’s nationwide
competition after principal Maeve Daly impressed judges with her pitch to
enhance teaching through e-learning.
St Finbarr’s, which is categorised as a DEIS school,
had even more to celebrate shortly after the visit when the Minister for
Education Ruairi Quinn announced his climb-down on spending cut for
disadvantaged schools.
After intense opposition pressure and countless
protests, the Government revealed that it would retain 235 so-called
“legacy
?
posts under the DEIS (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools) programme.
“It was a fantastic week for us with so much to celebrate,
?
Principal Daly told Northside People.
“We were absolutely delighted to win the competition
and the laptops are going to make such a huge difference in how we teach our
pupils.
“The win was especially welcomed and celebrated as
we’ve had such a difficult time fighting against cuts.
