A LOCAL history journal containing an excellent
selection of articles pertaining to the Fingal area was launched in Swords
recently.
Mayor of Fingal Cllr Gerry McGuire launched
‘Fingal
Studies No. 2 – Early Fingal Entrepreneurs’ at a reception in Fingal Studies
and Archives, Clonmel House, Forster Way.
The 96-page journal was edited by Joseph Byrne and
published by Fingal County Libraries.
This is the second issue of Fingal Studies, and has as
the main theme Early Fingal Entrepreneurs.
In his introduction to this issue, Mr Byrne informs
the reader that this second volume of Fingal Studies, under one guise or
another, contains an eclectic collection of contributions on topics ranging
from the arrival of the Normans in Fingal right through to Loughshinny in the
1950s.
But the main theme of this excellent publication is
early entrepreneurial activity in Fingal, a subject that has more than a little
resonance for Ireland today.
Copies of the journal are available from branches of
Fingal County Libraries. It is an essential acquisition for those interested in
local history and the Fingal area in particular.
The collection of material for Fingal Studies No. 3 is
now underway.
