GARDAI at Coolock are continuing to investigate the
circumstances of an armed robbery on a cash in transit van at Donaghmede
Shopping Centre last Thursday (January 19).
The robbery occurred at approximately 10.15am as the
cash in transit employees were delivering cash to an ATM at the centre.
A spokesperson for the Garda Press Office said:
“The
cash in transit employees were approached by two culprits who were believed to
be in possession of a firearm.
“The culprits who wore balaclavas (no other
description available at this time) left the scene with an undisclosed amount
of money in a black 07 C 4×4 and went in the direction of Clare Hall.
?
Witnesses or anyone who may have seen suspicious
activity in or around the shopping centre prior to the robbery is asked to
contact the gardai at Coolock on 01-6664200, the Garda Confidential Line on
1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
Dublin North East TD Sean Kenny (Lab) condemned the
raid.
“It is not the first time that Donaghmede Shopping
Centre has been targeted in this way and the use of weapons by the raiders is
very serious,
? he said.
“I would encourage anybody who witnessed the robbery or
who has any information to contact the gardaÃ.
?
Deputy Kenny added:
“There is a long held view by
local residents that the wider Donaghmede area, with a population the size of
Limerick city, should have its own Garda station and I would ask the Justice
Minister to have this proposal reconsidered again in light of the recent raid.
