A
NORTHSIDE public representative has praised the Pyrite Action group for its
submission to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Environment last week.
Dublin
North TD Brendan Ryan (Lab) said he has sat on many committees in his time as a
senator and TD
“but seldom have I witnessed a more engaging and well-presented
submission
?.
“Whilst
the Government has announced the setting up of a working group to tackle the
pyrite crisis in recent weeks, it was timely that the Pyrite Action group
presented the human cost of the issue to members of both the Dáil and Seanad,
?
said Deputy Ryan.
“The
group also set out its goals and expectations primary amongst them the desire
to have their pyrite-affected homes fully repaired and certified
‘pyrite-free’.
“This is
the goal which needs to be achieved and it must be the goal of the Government’s
working group too.
?
Deputy
Ryan said he welcomed the opportunity to speak with the Pyrite Action group in
Leinster House.
“I will
continue to work with them in the weeks and months ahead on this most serious
of issues,
? he added.
Sandra
Lewis, from Santry, a member of Pyrite Action, said the submission went very
well.
“It was
a two hour session in the end which was great,
? Ms Lewis told Northside People.
“We had
the time and the platform we needed to highlight the issue and the difficulties
we have found ourselves in.
“The
next important event for Pyrite Action is meeting the recently announced
working group later this month.
“We are
still collecting submissions from residents in affected developments who wish
to be included.
“All
information collected will be given to the working group to help them get a
head start on their work..
?
Ms Lewis
said establishing the extent of the pyrite issue will be their first task.
“They
(working group) have given a timeframe of Christmas/new year to report back on
their findings and propose recommendations,
? she added.
“Hopefully
it won’t be an overly protracted process.
