Cyclists show their mettle for challenge

GREAT FEAT: The cyclists pictured during their trip from Dublin to Galway.

FORTY cyclists proved
their high levels of fitness recently when they cycled over 230km from Dublin
to Galway in one day.

The Equinox Charity
Cycle took place in aid of Temple Street Children’s Hospital and Headway.

The cycle started at
7.15am from Howth Harbour where the cyclists dipped their back wheels into the
Irish Sea.

At sunset 12 hours later
they dipped their front wheels into the Atlantic Ocean in Galway. The team
stopped in Maynooth, Clonard, Moate, Ballinasloe and Loughrea along the way.

Several companies
including main sponsor, Dublin-based animation studio Brown Bag Films, backed
the cycle.

The team is proud to be
raising funds for Temple Street Children’s Hospital and brain injury charity
Headway, and aim to raise e20,000 for the two worthy causes.

Organiser Ronan O’Neill
said they had been planning and training for the cycle for over three months.

“Everybody has shown
great support and enthusiasm for it,

? he stated.

“A total of 230km in one
day is a huge challenge but we were ready for it, and it may become an annual
event! The day itself could not have gone any smoother. The help was tremendous
and we had the best weather we could have hoped for on the day.

“We would appreciate any
support that will help us raise as much money as possible for our chosen
charities

?.
