POPULAR
Blanchardstown based radio station, Phoenix FM, has received a welcome cash
boost that will allow it to support and re-launch its operations.

The local
station was awarded

?¬5,000 from Diageo Ireland’s

‘Gifted’ programme and the
funding will be used for a re-launch that will focus on a newly created daytime
schedule.

The Gifted
programme is now in its second year and it allows Diageo employees who
volunteer with local community groups or charities to nominate their
organisation for a donation from the company.

Sarah Devitt,
performance analyst at Diageo Ireland and voluntary director at Phoenix FM,
said the money will be put to good use.

“With the Diageo Gifted Award we are
purchasing equipment that will facilitate us broadcasting outside the radio
studios,

? she revealed.

“This is going
to significantly help us involve more members of our community and to broadcast
more events of community interest.

“This is
brilliant as the whole purpose of the radio station is to be there for the
community and for the needs of the community.

Applicants for
the Gifted programme have to provide details of how a donation from Diageo
Ireland can be put to good use by their respective group or charity.

All the
nominations are then considered at length and applications are further accessed
independently by Business in the Community.

Jean Doyle, Head
of Corporate Social Responsibility at Diageo Ireland, said Gifted had been
created to recognise the work that many of its employees do on a voluntary
basis with charities and community groups in their localities.

“Diageo
employees are making a strong contribution through their voluntary work, and
through the Gifted programme Diageo Ireland is echoing this contribution,

? she
continued.

“I am delighted
that for the second year running, Diageo are able to support 18 very worthy
local organisations across the country and to also encourage active citizenship
amongst employees through such a rewarding scheme.
