BALLYMUN Dublin
North West TD John Lyons has become Ireland’s first senior politician to launch
a personal application for smartphones.
Deputy Lyons
launched the app, which is available to download for iPhone or Android phones,
outside Leinster House earlier this month.
The app is
designed to give constituents local news updates as well as a new way to get in
touch with their local political representative.
“I think it’s a
really innovative application, allowing constituents to get local news updates
directly to their smartphone,
? said Deputy Lyons.
“It’s also
another great way for constituents to get in touch with me, allowing them to
call or email the constituency office directly from the app, or to use the
‘call me back’ feature that sends a notification directly to my email account
for free.
“I think it’s a
real breakthrough in political communication, especially as mobile internet
usage on smartphones will overtake desktops by 2013.
“The app is
updated in real-time from my website, Twitter and Facebook feed and I can also
send direct messages straight to constituents’ smartphones in the palm of their
hand.
“I think the app
is quite revolutionary in connecting constituents with their public
representatives. It gives people the opportunity to become more involved and
engaged with the political process.
“I am delighted
that my constituents in Dublin North West can now have more of a direct link
with me, and I hope that many more public representatives will follow this lead
in communicating with constituents.

The John Lyons
TD App can be downloaded for free from the iTunes App Store and Google Android
