THERE were
flowers, presents and a gigantic birthday cake for one of the Northside’s
oldest residents last week when Finglas lady Kathleen Sherlock celebrated her
100th birthday at the West Finglas Community Hall.
A big crowd of
family, friends and staff of the Odin’s Wood Day Care Centre which Kathleen has
attended since 2002 gathered to sing happy birthday and wish her well for her
101st year.
Among those
celebrating were Kathleen’s children and many grandchildren, including her
famous grandson, former Dublin footballer Jason Sherlock.
Kathleen was
born in Erril, Co Laois to a family of 14 children. She moved to Dublin around
1931 and worked for a time as a domestic for a family in Malahide. In 1936,
Kathleen married Lawrence and they had four children.
She spent most
of her married life living in Phibsboro, before moving to Finglas South over 30
years ago.
Paula
Bermingham, Manager of Odin’s Wood Day Care Centre, described Kathleen as a
“marvellous woman who appreciates the little things in life
?.
“She enjoys her
cup of tea and a scone and never leaves us without saying thank you. She is
well loved by all in the Day Care Centre and has made many friends over the
years,
? she added.
