Young councillor gets on board

Grace Tallon has
become one of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council’s newest, and youngest,
public representatives.

The 26-year-old
Dundrum native was selected to replace Aidan Culhane as Labour Party councillor
for the Dundrum ward at a meeting of party members in Taney Parish Centre. Mr
Culhane has become a special advisor to Minister of State Willie Penrose.

Having worked on
election campaigns since she was 16, Tallon says she is determined to bring
something new to the council.

“My first task
is to introduce myself as a councillor to everyone in the area,

? she declared.

“I’ve called to thousands of houses in the last four elections, but not as the
candidate. I really think that politicians don’t listen enough. If you don’t
listen, you don’t get to understand the issues, and won’t find the right
solutions.

The music
teacher says she has a lot to learn, but a lot to say too.

“I’ll be working
24/7 from now on,

? she promised.
