WHILE there may
have been big celebrations in Killarney last week when the County Kerry town
won the National Tidy Towns award, there was also joy in Fingal when a number
of towns and villages in the county recorded successes.
Once again the
beautiful town of Skerries claimed the Dublin Regional Award, winning the
accolade for the seventh consecutive year.
Skerries
achieved a total score of 303 points in the category for Tidiest Large Town as
well as being the winner in the County Award and winning a gold medal in their
category.
Malahide also
won a gold medal in their category and was Highly Commended.
Congratulations
also go to Lusk for being Commended in the County Awards for the second year
running. Balbriggan won the Endeavour Award for Fingal with an improvement of
4.33 per cent on last year’s results.
Skerries Tidy
Towns Committee also won the National Award for Sustainable Development while
Donabate Tidy Towns was Highly Commended in the same category.
Fingal County
Council said it was delighted to congratulate the award-winning Tidy Towns Committees
throughout the county.
Eleven Tidy
Towns committees competed this year, winning a total of nine awards in the
competition.
A spokesperson
for the council said:
“All of the towns and villages have been successful in
achieving a very high standard.
“It is important
to recognise that these awards were achieved due to the commitment and hard
work of all the Tidy Towns committees who make such a real difference in their
local communities.
“Once again
Skerries deserves a special mention after winning the Dublin Region Award for
the seventh year in a row.

“Fingal County Council would like to recognise the commitment of all the
committees – Skerries, Malahide, Lusk, Rush, Balscadden, Donabate, Balbriggan,
Swords, Rusheeny, Sutton and Howth – and congratulate their efforts which make
a real difference in their towns.

Dublin North TD
Brendan Ryan (Lab) also congratulated all the Tidy Towns committees and
activists throughout Fingal who achieved so much in the competition.

making the towns such pleasant places to live in and to visit,

Meanwhile, there
was also good news for Raheny, which was Highly Commended in the County Awards
section.
