Dublin to host 9/11 commemorative concert

COMMEMORATIVE
concerts are set to take place in cities around the world, including Dublin,
this weekend to mark the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

Global
Sing for Peace was created so that musicians worldwide could show their support
of the anniversary.

The
event is centred around the September 11, 2011 Lincoln Centre performance of
Karl Jenkins’

‘The Armed Man’ and René Clausen’s

‘Memorial’.

Ireland’s
Enchiriadis Treis Choir, accompanied by the National Philharmonia Orchestra,
will present the commemoration in Dublin this Sunday, September 11.

‘9/11:
Ireland Remembers’ will be held in the Convention Centre and includes a
programme of poignant and moving music, and incorporates spoken reflections
delivered by invited guests from Irish public life and the arts.

Among
those reading will be Conor O’Clery who was an eyewitness to the events in New
York 10 years ago.

Doireann
Ní Bhriain will MC the event and Seamus Heaney’s poem

‘Anything Can Happen’
will be read as part of the programme.

‘The
Armed Man’ will be the focal point of the concert, which is intended as a
tribute to the friendship between Ireland and America.

Tickets
are now on sale at Ticketmaster.ie from

?¬20 (booking fees apply). For corporate
premium tickets and packages, contact Áine Kilgallon, fundraising consultant,
on 086-6097488.

Proceeds
from the event will go to

‘The Ark, A Cultural Centre for Children’ based in
Temple Bar. The money raised will fund

‘Harmony’, a new three-year initiative
to help children in marginalised communities engage with high quality musical
experiences, to promote social inclusion, diversity and peace building.

Eina
McHugh, director of The Ark, said they were delighted to be associated with
this unique event and to partner with Enchiriadis Treis in raising funds for

‘Harmony’.

Ms McHugh said the funds
would provide unforgettable musical experiences for children whose
opportunities for hearing and participating in live and interactive music
activity are extremely limited.
