THE family of a Tallaght man who went missing from his home at the end of June are appealing to members of the public for any information regarding his whereabouts.

Gardai have begun a missing person’s investigation in an attempt to trace 42-year-old Gerard Daly, who is originally from the Knockmore area of Tallaght, but had been living just outside Bailieboro in Co Cavan since 2007.

Gerard was last seen at approximately 6pm at his home at Cornaveagh in Bailieboro on June 26. He is described as being 5 foot, 10 inches in height, of broad build, with dark hair and blue eyes.

Gerard’s sister Belinda told Southside People that she and the rest of the family have been devastated by his disappearance.

“It is eight weeks now and we are absolutely crushed about what has been going on,

? she said.

She explained that Gerard was separated from his wife but has three young boys. A builder by profession, he has been unemployed for about a year. He is a breeder of German Shepherd dogs and, according to Belinda, is well known for this in the Bailieboro area.

She described the circumstances leading up to her brother’s disappearance.

“He had a friend over and they had dinner and the friend left,

? she said.

“Then nobody heard from him after two days or so.

“Where he lives is quite remote. But the friend had contacted one of the neighbours and asked them to pop down and see what was going on. One of the neighbours went down and he had literally just vanished.

Belinda said friends and family members had been in contact with Gerard and had not noticed him acting out of character and he had not exhibited any signs to indicate that anything was wrong.

“We had seen Gerard two weeks before at a family function and he was in great form,

? she said.

“Initially when all this started, the police asked us if there was any sign of depression or suicide or anything like that. They went through the checklist and found absolutely nothing that indicates he has run off or killed himself.

“From what his family and friends can see, there was nothing leading up to it that was out of character. My mother had spoken to him a couple of days earlier and he was fine.

“We are absolutely at a loss and I just keep thinking that somebody must know or have seen him. I am trying to get an appeal out there and hope for a lead or one point of contact.

Belinda described Gerard as a

“happy go lucky guy

?.

“He didn’t get upset about an awful lot of stuff. He didn’t panic about stuff.

She said he still had close ties with the Tallaght area and often visited friends and family there.

“He would have still have a lot of friends in Dublin and would have been in and out of Tallaght all the time,

? she added.

“It wouldn’t be unusual for his friends or family to be up there either, so that is why there is still a big connection with Dublin itself.
