illegal dump in Ballyfermot must be removed, says Doolan

Sinn Féin leader on Dublin City Council, councillor Daithí Doolan, has said that the illegal dump in Ballyfermot must be removed as a matter of urgency.

The Ballyfermot-Drimnagh councillor said, “it is unacceptable to expect residents to have to live beside this dump.”

“The dump in Labre Park on Kylemore Road, Ballyfermot is a major public health risk for residents living here. One resident has already been bitten by a rat and became seriously ill.”

Doolan said he was “shocked” by what he saw.

“There must be fifty tonnes of waste dumped in Labre Park. I met with residents and Ballyfermot Traveller Action Project. They are furious that this has been allowed to continue. This dumping is at an industrial level. Those involved must face justice.”

“I have contacted Dublin City Council, Gardaí, Health Service Executive and Ballyfermot Traveller Action Project highlighting the crisis. They must work together to remove this waste and make sure it doesn’t happen again. We need to send out a loud and clear message, those involved in illegal dumping will face criminal sanctions,” he said.

“The residents of Labre Park have faced huge challenges over the years with the promised regeneration never happening; they can not be expected to live on a dump as well. I would plead with Dublin City Council to clear this up as a matter of urgency.”
