Following the recent theft of beloved rescue horse Eleanor from My Lovely Horse Rescue’s sanctuary in Co. Kildare, the charity urgently needs to strengthen security measures to protect the hundreds of animals in its care.
Although Eleanor was thankfully recovered safely, the incident highlighted the need for enhanced security across the rescue. A special fundraising cycle will now help make those vital improvements a reality.
Belinda Morgan, who recently turned 70 is the founder of The Hairy Project, together with My Lovely Horse Rescue’s own Advocacy Manager Kerry-anne Pollock, will cycle 150 kilometres from Dublin to Wicklow this Saturday, August 22, to raise funds and awareness for the rescue.

The itinerary for the cycle is from Dunnes, Crumlin SC to Roundwood for Day 1, Roundwood to Brittas for Day 2 and Brittas to Sandymount Strand (Martello tower) for Day 3.
The challenge comes in response to one of the most distressing incidents in the charity’s history.
While Eleanor’s safe return brought enormous relief to staff, volunteers and supporters, the rescue is now focused on ensuring every animal on the sanctuary is better protected in the future.
Funds raised through the cycle will go directly towards improving security at the sanctuary, helping to ensure that such a traumatic event can never happen again.
My Lovely Horse Rescue relies mostly on public support to continue rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming horses, donkeys and many other animals.
Every donation, no matter the size, will make a real difference to the lives of vulnerable animals.
Supporters are encouraged to donate, share the fundraiser and cheer Belinda and Kerry-anne on as they take on the 150km challenge.
