The Road Safety Authority (RSA) is inviting nominations for the 2026 Leading Lights in Road Safety Awards, celebrating the individuals, organisations and communities making a significant contribution to improving road safety across Ireland.
Now in their seventeenth year, the awards recognise outstanding efforts to promote safer roads through education, awareness campaigns, research, innovation and community-led initiatives. Nominations are now open, with full details available on the RSA website. The closing date for entries is 23 October 2026.
The award categories have been updated for 2026 and nominations are invited in the following categories:
• Community Road Safety Award for Vulnerable Road Users
• Employer-led Road Safety Programme Award
• Youth Road Safety Champion Award
• School Road Safety Initiative Award
• Road Safety Partnership Award
• Gay Byrne Media Award
• Research & Innovation in Road Safety Award
• Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) Award
• CPC Award
Category winners will go forward for consideration for the prestigious Gertie Shields Supreme Award 2026.
Named in honour of the late Gertie Shields, a tireless road safety advocate and the 2013 Supreme Award recipient, the award recognises an outstanding overall contribution to road safety in Ireland. It continues her enduring legacy of championing safer roads for all.
Calling for nominations for the awards, Nuala Carey, Interim Director of Partnerships and External Affairs, RSA said: “Improving road safety is a shared responsibility, and across Ireland there are individuals, organisations and communities making a real and lasting difference every day.
“The Leading Lights in Road Safety Awards provide an opportunity to recognise and celebrate their dedication, innovation and commitment to protecting all road users.
“Whether through education, research, community initiatives, workplace programmes or media engagement, these efforts help create a safer road environment for everyone.
“We encourage people to nominate those who are making a positive impact and look forward to celebrating their achievements at Croke Park this December.”
Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Croke Park on 9 December 2026.
