Councillor Cathal Haughey says he welcomes a new online tool being launched by Fingal County Council where anti-social behaviour can be reported within Fingal owned housing.
This is part of the Council’s new Anti-Social Behaviour Strategy which was recently adopted at the July Council meeting.
It was first presented to the Fingal Housing Strategic Policy Committee which Haughey is a member of.
Speaking at the meeting, Councillor Haughey said “We are contacted every day by really decent hardworking people who are on the housing list and people who have never put a foot wrong, have never come in contact with the Gardaí… and then we have also been made aware of cases of Council tenants, our tenants, terrorising people, terrorising communities, terrorising their whole road, a nightmare to live beside.”
“We have heard of our Housing Staff being threatened, In my opinion if you threaten Council staff, you should be evicted, I know there is legislation we have to follow but I’d like a more zero tolerance approach”
“My Sympathy is with the people who are living beside others who are making their lives miserable.
“That’s who I want to support.
“And all the genuine, hardworking decent people who are waiting on the Housing List for years, when there is other people who have been given a house and probably don’t deserve it in terms the anti-social behaviour and even criminal behaviour.”
Speaking after the meeting Haughey added “The vast majority of Council tenants are responsible, unfortunately a small percentage engage in anti-social behaviour which impacts other residents and the wider community.
“It is important to note any criminal activity regardless of housing type should be reported to the Guards.”
