Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien has announced the appointment of Gerard Ryan as Chairperson of the board of Bus Átha Cliath (Dublin Bus), and Board Member of Córas Iompair Éireann for a period of six months beginning 3 September 2026, while a publicjobs recruitment process is carried out.
The appointment to Bus Átha Cliath was made in advance of the stepping down of the current chairperson, Gary Owens. Following appointment by the Minister, the government appointed Gerard Ryan to the Board of Córas Iompair Éireann under the Transport (Reorganisation of Córas Iompair Éireann) Act of 1986.
Minister O’Brien said “I am very pleased to appoint Gerard Ryan as Chairperson of Bus Átha Cliath. He brings a wide range of experience and expertise to his role, which will help guide the Board through the next six months.”
“I am also very pleased that the government has approved the appointment to the Board of Córas Iompair Éireann. Gerard was a Director on the Board of Bus Éireann from 2012 until 2021, and I believe that he is the right person for this role, bringing a strong track record in management and corporate governance.”
