Dublin Bus services to be diverted over Bank Holiday weekend

More than 20 different routes will be diverted on Sunday 31 May due to the Women’s Mini Marathon.

This includes some of Dublin Bus’s busiest routes such as the E-spine and F-Spine. Some routes will be diverted from 04.00 that morning. Most routes will experience diversions from approximately 10.00 to 18.00 on Sunday. A full list of diversions for each route is listed on dublinbus.ie

Dublin Bus typically carries around 500,000 customers each midweek day. The company expects numbers to be lower over bank holiday weekends. However, the figure is still likely to be in the region of 1 million customers over the three days.

Those affected by rail engineering works on southside DART services can use their TFI Leap Cards on Dublin Bus services. In anticipation, Dublin Bus is employing additional services in affected areas.

On Bank Holiday Monday, a Sunday service will be in operation. Nitelink services will operate on Friday and Saturday, but not on Sunday night. However, customers are reminded that Dublin Bus also operates fifteen different 24-hour routes, 7 days per week.

Dublin Bus Director of Service Operations, Gwen Morgan, said that ‘the Women’s Mini Marathon is a wonderful event for the city, but it also brings with it many road closures and significant disruption to services. Our Operations team will be diverting more than 20 routes with as little disruption as possible.”

Ms Morgan continued on to say that “it will be an extremely busy weekend for Dublin Bus with so many events on. We will be closely monitoring our services and traffic conditions on the road. A real benefit of bus services is the ability to adapt and divert according to conditions in the moment, and a busy weekend like this is a perfect example.”

Dublin Bus is encouraging customers to plan their journey in advance and give themselves extra time to travel due to the volume of events occurring over the Bank Holiday weekend. There will be some diversions on Route 52 and C-Spine due to events in Kilmainham Royal Hospital. Bloom Festival takes place in the Phoenix Park and will affect Route 99.
