Slight drop in homeless figures for end of 2025

After the all-time record high for homeless figures was broken in nearly every month in 2025, there was a slight drop at the end of 2025.

The most recent round of statistics, released on the afternoon of January 30, revealed that 16,734 people availed of homeless services in Ireland in the final week of December 2025.

This marked a slight drop from the 16,996 figure from November 2025.

Homeless figures have a tendency to drop in December, according to historic data.

There was a minor drop in the number of people in homeless services in Dublin, going from 8.214 in November to 8,184 in December.

A similar drop was recorded in the number of children in homeless accommodation nationwide, going from 5,321 in November to 5,188 in December.

The figures still remain stubbornly high, however, and a rise in the January figures is expected upon the announcement of figures in late February.

Catherine Kenny, CEO of Dublin Simon Community, noted the slight drop was due to the Christmas period.
“Homelessness is driven by a range of overlapping factors — from financial pressure and rising living costs to health challenges, family breakdown, domestic violence, trauma and addiction. A short-term dip does not change the reality that thousands of people remain without a safe, secure place to call home,” she said.
