Dublin’s new Local Community Safety Partnerships must be fully resourced and solution-focused, says Sinn Féin councillor Daithí Doolan.
Doolan, chairperson of a Joint Policing Committee, said:
“This is an opportunity for real change. Dublin’s Local Community Safety Partnerships must be fully resourced and solution focused,” the Southside councillor said.
“Community safety partnerships have now officially replaced Joint Policing Committees, while the community based local policing forums remain in place.
“The challenge to tackle the causes and consequences of crime are very real. Dublin residents deserve to live and work in safe communities. From the city centre to the outer suburbs everyone must feel safe and welcome in Dublin. This requires that the safety partnerships are solution focused, resourced, and fully funded by the Department of Justice. Half measures are simply unacceptable.
Doolan said “it is imperative that the new safety partnerships receive full support from statutory agencies, the Gardaí and government bodies.”
“The community safety partnerships must be up and fully functioning as soon as possible. There is an urgency about the issues facing Dublin.
“The priorities for the partnerships must be tackling drug related intimidation, organised crime and public safety.”
