After a remarkable 26 year run hosting Liveline on RTÉ Radio 1, veteran broadcaster Joe Duffy presented his final show today marking the end of a 37-year career with RTÉ.
Tánaiste Simon Harris described it as “the end of an era,” noting Duffy served as “a friend, a therapist, an advocate, and a voice for many”
Duffy praised his callers and the enduring trust people place in media, saying, “It’s the voices on Liveline; the less I talk the better”
He dismissed rumours of a presidential run, quipping “I can see the Áras from Claddagh Green… that’s the closest I’ll ever get to it”
He confirmed Liveline will continue next week with a stand-in host and hinted the permanent successor will be announced over the summer
Today’s show was both warm and poignant—a heartfelt goodbye fueled by nostalgia, laughter, and appreciation.
As he steps away, Joe Duffy leaves behind an enduring legacy of public service and connection, upheld daily at 1:45?pm on RTÉ Radio?1.
