A major cost-rental and social housing development has officially opened in Adamstown, with Oaklee unveiling 184 new homes at The Sidings on Friday.
The scheme, which includes 154 cost-rental apartments and 30 social homes, is the housing body’s first cost-rental project and forms part of the wider Crossings development in west Dublin.
The landmark scheme includes 154 cost-rental apartments and 30 social homes, and was delivered in partnership with developer Evara, with support from South Dublin County Council and backing from a range of government funding streams.

At the launch event, representatives from Oaklee, Evara, the Housing Agency, and South Dublin County Council joined residents to celebrate the opening of the development — which is now a striking new feature in the rapidly growing urban village of Adamstown.
The nine-storey building, designed by Henry J Lyons, stands as a visual marker for the new community at The Crossings, Adamstown’s modern retail and residential core.
The design features high-quality brickwork, striking balconies, and active ground-floor frontages that contribute positively to the local streetscape.
Oaklee’s CEO, Sharon Cosgrove, said the development reflected the organisation’s strategic ambition to grow its cost-rental portfolio:
“The official opening of The Sidings and the additional acquisition of 47 homes in Cherrywood exemplifies a successful collaboration between Oaklee and Evara aimed at addressing the ongoing need for housing in Ireland.
“By combining resources and expertise, we are delivering communities that not only meet the immediate demand for housing but also contribute to the creation of sustainable, vibrant and well-connected communities.”
The Sidings is part of a broader transformation in Adamstown that includes a major shopping centre with Tesco, Aldi and a range of retail outlets including McCabes Pharmacy, Grafton Barbers, Urban Vets and ABC Gym.
A three-acre public park, public plaza, and local schools and crèches make the location ideal for families.
Importantly, The Crossings sits beside a purpose-built railway station on the main west Dublin commuter and intercity train lines, while the N4 and M50 are easily accessible — placing Adamstown at the centre of a well-connected and rapidly developing part of Dublin.
Minister for Housing James Browne welcomed the development, saying:
“Each new home at the Sidings provides a safe and secure place for people and a community to be part of. It’s especially significant that this development contains Oaklee’s first cost-rental homes. Approved Housing Bodies like Oaklee are a key delivery partner for this popular and affordable form of housing.”
Cost-rental housing — where rents are set to cover the cost of building and maintaining the homes, rather than market prices — is a key element in the government’s strategy to provide long-term affordable accommodation. To date, Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs) have delivered over 2,000 cost-rental homes nationwide, with another 2,500 in the pipeline for delivery by the end of 2027.
Oaklee currently manages more than 2,400 homes across 19 counties and is expected to play an even greater role in the delivery of cost-rental housing in the years ahead.
The Sidings apartments are all A-rated for energy efficiency and come with fully fitted kitchens, built-in wardrobes, and generous living spaces. The mix includes one-, two- and three-bedroom units, offering a range of options for singles, couples and families.
Michael Hynes, CEO of Evara, said:
“We are delighted to partner with Oaklee on this important project.
“These new A-rated apartments provide eligible tenants with affordable and secure homes in an excellent and well-served area.
“The Crossings is already a great place to live and we’re continuing to build on that with more mixed-tenure developments to ensure a diverse and thriving community.”
At the event, Oaklee also announced the acquisition of a further 47 homes from Evara at Castlehouse in Cherrywood, which will be made available as social housing.
Cherrywood is Ireland’s largest Strategic Development Zone and is undergoing extensive development, with Oaklee positioning itself to support high-demand areas through future projects.
With The Sidings now open and more homes on the way, Oaklee’s commitment to delivering affordable, high-quality homes through meaningful partnerships is helping to shape the future of Irish housing — one community at a time.
