Trinity College Trade Unions call on University to sever all Israeli institutional and corporate links

Trade Unions representing academic, professional, technical and craft workers in Trinity College Dublin have called for the University to sever all institutional links with Israel in a submission to the taskforce considering its international academic and institutional relations.

Unite Trinity Shop Steward, Cieran Perry, said: “In a joint submission by Unite, SIPTU, IFUT and Craft Union representatives to the College Taskforce, we’ve relayed our support for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions approach to the apartheid Israeli State, companies and institutions.

“This is answering the call for such action from Palestinian civil society that includes Trade Unions.’’

“A University of Trinity’s international reputation can and should lead the way in isolating Israel in the international community until it ends its genocidal activities and dismantles the apartheid system it is implementing internally and in the West Bank.

“In our submission to the Taskforce on Academic and Institutional International Links and Related Matters we call on the University to urgently sever all ties with apartheid Israeli companies, suppliers and institutions.’’

SIPTU Trinity Shop Steward, Jack Ferguson, said “The joint submission from Trade Union representatives to the Taskforce was submitted during the college-community consultation period earlier in 2025.

“We are now making it public as action needs to be taken sooner rather than later by our historic institution to properly reflect the concerns of staff, students and the wider public concerning the actions of Israel against the Palestinian people.

“We also call for a strengthening of the University’s links with Palestine, whose academic community very much needs our support in rebuilding the sector in Gaza.

“There must also be an increase in offers of scholarships to Palestinian students and funds for the hosting of Palestinian researchers and teaching staff.”
