Dublin City Council announces new ‘Crowdfund Dublin City’ partnership

Dublin City Council has announced a new €300,000 fund to support community-led projects that improve the local area.

In partnership with Spacehive, a community fundraising platform, the council say the ‘Crowdfund Dublin City’ programme will enable local residents across the city to exclusively access funding for community-led initiatives.

The crowdfunding nature of this programme, in collaboration with Dublin City Council funding, will maximise the amount campaigners can raise in order to deliver transformational community projects that matter to them.

This new fund will be allocated to services not already provided by Dublin City Council and will be available to residents in the Dublin City Council administrative area.

It will officially launch to the public with an event hosted by Lord Mayor Daithí de Róiste at 7pm on October 3, The Mansion House:

The Lord Mayor said: “We’re excited to launch this programme and give those living in the Dublin City Council administrative area the unique opportunity to crowdfund locally-led projects, bringing together funding and support from neighbours, community networks, businesses and the council.

“‘Crowdfund Dublin City’ reinforces our vision of a dynamic, sustainable city that is future-ready, built on thriving, inclusive communities, a strong economy, a vibrant cultural life, and connected growth.”

To attend the launch of ‘Crowdfund Dublin City’ and hear more about how Dublin City Council and Spacehive can help bring local ideas to life, register via eventbrite.

The deadline to pitch ideas and upload to the Spacehive platform is Wednesday 29th November, 2023.

Dublin City Council and Spacehive are keen to hear from Dublin residents who have an innovative idea to improve their local area – they can pitch for up to €5,000 from the ‘Crowdfund Dublin City’ programme by clicking on this link below:

Ideas could include sustainability and environmental initiatives, improving the health and wellbeing of communities, promoting social inclusion and diversity, and enhancing green spaces.  No fundraising experience is necessary – 65% of Spacehive project creators are creating a community project for the first time.

Spacehive assists project creators with online workshops, 1-2-1 support and resources, providing advice on everything from project costs to campaign promotion.

Misha Dhanak, CEO of Spacehive, said: “We can’t wait to hear the brilliant ideas that Dublin residents have to improve their local areas – which could be anything from community gardens and allotments; sustainability and environmental projects, such as protecting wildlife, or reducing waste; to energising spaces with art projects and murals.

“This is our first fundraising initiative in Ireland and we’re proud to be working alongside Dublin City Council to bring these ideas to fruition and support the vision of local residents.

“We are ready to support the ambitious change that people want to make happen in Dublin.”
