Revenue officers at Dublin Port with the assistance of detector dog Milo, seized approximately 540,000 cigarettes at Dublin Port.
“The cigarettes have an estimated retail value of approximately €426,500, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of almost €334,000,” a Revenue spokesperson said.
“The smuggled cigarettes, branded ‘Sobraine’ and ‘Dunhill’, were discovered concealed in metal boxes in a consignment which arrived from Cologne, Germany.”
Investigations are ongoing.
This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply of illegal tobacco products.
