Kishogue train station finally scheduled to open

Kishogue train station.

A statement by Irish Rail last week confirmed that Kishogue train station, which has remained out of use for 14 years, will be opened in December 2023.

The statement was welcomed by local representatives who have been calling for the opening of the station for years.

The station will need major refurbishment works at a cost of €3.8 million.

People Before Profit TD for Dublin Midwest Gino Kenny commented:

“It’s great news that this station is finally scheduled to be opened this year.

“It never made any sense to keep it closed.

“There are many people living in the Lucan area who could have used the train for their commute if it had been available.

“Hopefully the opening of the station will help both existing and new residents and alleviate some of the traffic in the Lucan area.”

Cllr Madeleine Johansson commented:

“I really hope that December 2023 will be the date of the opening of Kishogue train station.

“During the discussions for the Clonburris SDZ the NTA said that the station would be opened in 2020 but this never happened.

“If we’re serious about getting people out of their cars and onto public transport then we need provide good reliable services for people.

“The opening of the new station and the coming Dart+ project are a first step towards that.”
