Dublin City Council collected more than 441 tonnes of bonfire material in 2022

Bonfire material seized by the council.

Dublin City Council has revealed that it collected more than 441 tonnes of stockpiled bonfire material in the run-up to Halloween this year.

That figure is down on 2021, when 515 tonnes was collected while in 2020, 550 tonnes was collected.

Dublin City Council’s Halloween Response Group was led by the Waste Management Services section and included Parks, Housing, Area Offices and Dublin Fire Brigade. The group worked closely with An Garda Siochana, DCC says

“Dublin City Council began collecting material as early as late August and ramped up collections in the 10 days leading up to Halloween, when on-call out of hours crews were available North and Southside.

“Dublin City Council is satisfied that its efforts in collecting bonfire material and organising more than 60 events across the city on the night itself, helped to make Halloween 2022 a success.

“A debrief and review of activity will take place in the coming weeks with all stakeholders,” it says.
