Dublin city centre attracted the most amount of people on St Patrick’s Day since 2017, with 315,000 people visiting the city on March 17th.
The footfall figures for the entire week of St Patrick’s Day show that the double Bank Holiday was a huge boost to businesses in the city centre, with a total footfall of 2,495,000 in the city centre during the week.
This was 87% of the 2019 level and 90.5% of the 2018 level for the same week.
The numbers were compiled by business group DublinTown, which closely monitors footfall in the city.
The footfall data is collected using state of the art cameras at key locations, with raw data analysed by international experts Springboard, who also monitor footfall in New York, London and Chicago.
Commenting on the footfall figures, DublinTown Chief Executive, Richard Guiney, said; ‘’The footfall figures for last week were extremely strong and it has never been needed more by businesses in the city.
“There were a huge number of visitors from overseas again, particularly from the US, and Dublin Airport was reporting 77,000 people coming through the airport daily last week.’’
“In the months leading up to St Patrick’s Day, DublinTown worked closely with businesses in the city, An Garda Síochána and Dublin City Council to ensure the week went smoothly, particularly in terms of safety, security and street cleaning.
“It has certainly been successful and a St Patrick’s Day to remember. DublinTown will continue to closely monitor footfall over the course of the next few weeks and will provide further updates and analysis in the lead up to Easter and the summer months.’’
