Dublin City Council has confirmed that it is progressing a proposal to introduce a teen space in Finglas.
The news was announced to councillors during January’s Dublin City Council meeting.
Independent councillor for the area, Noeleen Reilly, who has been campaigning for the space said the development is welcome.
“It is so important that facilities are provided for Tteenagers in a safe and secure manner, and I’m delighted to see the progress being made in providing a teen space in Finglas,” she said.
“Over the last number of years councillors have allocated funding to create some facilities for young people and we have also looked at various locations with Séamus Ennis Road in Ballygall now being the preferred option.
“It is well served with public lighting, passive supervision and is very close to the centre of Finglas Village.
“We are looking at proving a smart bench which can charge, earbuds and smart watches by using solar energy that is stored in a battery. To the best of my knowledge this is the first of its kind in the area and it will benefit the whole community,” Reilly said.
“We are also looking at creating a multi-use court and the designs for this are currently being drawn up which will then be discussed with residents living directly behind the proposed area.
“The bench has been ordered and should be in place very soon.
“It is great to see something different being considered for teenagers and if it proves successful there is no reason why we can’t consider other locations in the future”
