Lucan residents say they are disconnected due to BusConnects service

The recent introduction of BusConnects and changes to bus services has left some residents in Lucan disconnected, says People Before Profit councillor Madeleine Johansson.

In the Dodsboro/Hillcrest area of Lucan residents have lost both of the direct bus services to the city centre.

Between 25 and 30 residents joined an outdoor public meeting hosted by People Before Profit TD Gino Kenny in late November with many locals expressing frustration about the removal of the 25 bus.

The replacement service, the X30, now only runs at peak times.

People Before Profit TD Gino Kenny commented: “We made numerous submissions to the BusConnects consultations raising the issue of the removal of the 25 bus.

“I was very disappointed to see the NTA going ahead with this decision.

“It leaves many people having to get 2 separate buses to get to the city centre.

“I’m calling on the NTA to consider increasing the services on the new X30 bus to include some service at off-peak times.

“I have also asked the NTA to look at re-instating the bus stop at Supervalu which was used by many residents and shoppers.”

Johansson said that the BusConnects plan has some “good changes” including the Clondalkin to Lucan route but amendments need to be made.

“I would call on the NTA to consider taking action to ensure that everyone in the area has a bus service.

“At the moment the Shackleton/Dodsboro area is completely left out apart from the local buses.

“I have been told by South Dublin County Council that they are very keen to see buses going down the new Adamstown Boulevard road which is due to open in late January 2022.

“A bus to the city centre on that road would much improve the situation for residents in Dodsboro, as well as the new residents in Shackleton, Gandon and the Paddocks.”
