Do Not Swim notice issued for Malahide Beach after high bacteria levels

A temporary Do Not Swim Notice has been issued for Malahide Beach due to unacceptable levels of bacteria in a recent bathing water sample taken August 3, Fingal County Council has announced.

The cause is unknown and an investigation is underway.

A resample was taken on the August 5 with results due on Saturday, August 7 when the notice will be reviewed.

All identified bathing waters met the standard for “excellent” quality in results of testing on August 3rd, and the next scheduled sampling date is Tuesday, August 17.

Malahide Beach remains open but beach users are asked to respect the ‘Do Not Swim’ notices as they have been put in place to ensure that the health of bathers is not compromised, the local authority says.

Members of the public can check for water quality at any of the monitored bathing waters in Ireland in advance by accessing the EPA website at www.beaches.ie or by checking the notice board at the entrance to each beach.
