Fianna Fáil TD for Dublin Bay North, Seán Haughey, has urged the residents of Howth and its surrounding areas to remain vigilant as Dublin Fire Brigade continue to battle gorse fires on Howth Head.

Deputy Haughey said: “I understand that Dublin Fire Brigade have a number of units in attendance with firefighters tackling a significant and difficult vegetation fire.

“It’s important to acknowledge the efforts of the Fire Service and members of the Defence Forces who have gone above and beyond in an attempt to bring these gorse fires under control.

“Due to the wind direction, the smoke from the fire is being carried across the northside of the city, I would encourage people to follow advice and keep their windows and doors closed if impacted.

“I would also urge motorists to remain vigilant as drifting smoke may impact visibility while driving.

“I appreciate the significant impact this fire is having on the locality.

“I will continue to engage with Dublin Fire Brigade who are working to address this situation as safely and efficiently as possible.”
