DCC finds no suitable dog pound after issuing invitation for tender

Dublin City Council has announced that it has not issued a contract for the provision of a dog shelter service after issuing an invitation to tender.

In a statement, the council said that none of the applicants were considered to be suitable candidates for the service.

“Dublin City Council recently issued an Invitation to Tender for the provision of a Dog Shelter service for the City.

“A small number of tenders were received.

“However, having completed the compliance check and evaluation process, none of these tenderers have been awarded the contract.

“Dublin City Council is continuing to work to bring about a long-term solution for the provision of care and shelter for lost, abandoned, surrendered or seized dogs from the City.

“In the meantime, the City Council is actively working with organisations who are in a position, in the short to medium term, to care for and provide suitable shelter for dogs from the City.”

Ashton Dog Pound, which is located in Ashtown, had previously been hired by the council as a dog shelter for lost and abandoned dogs.

However, after allegations of animal abuse at the pound, the local authority did not renew its contract with the shelter earlier this year.
