“Deep” concerns have been raised after a stabbing incident occurred on Monday night on Samuel Beckett Bridge.
Sinn Fein councillor for North Inner City, Janice Boylan said: “Groups of youths both male and female from both sides of the Liffey congregated on the bridge and engaged in physical altercations resulting in one young male having suspected stab wounds.
“He was taken to the Mater Hospital for treatment,” she says.
Boylan is calling for more to be done in order to ease tensions in the area
“This type of activity has to stop, we need to stop it before it escalates and lives are lost.
“Gardaí were quick to respond and I understand that the crowd dispersed quickly,” she said.
“We need intervention to stop these gangs from forming in the first place.
“I am hearing that it was organised on Whatsapp between the youths from both sides of the Liffey and has been going on for sometime now.
“Someone’s life is going to be lost in these altercations. That’s the reality we are facing.”
“Parents and teenagers need to act responsibly and stop these gatherings from happening. The country is on lockdown and people’s mental health is suffering tremendously, and these incidents are terrifying for those involved and those who witness them.
“I am calling on the Garda Commissioner Drew Harris to address the issue of these gatherings and put in place actions that prevent and deter them.
“We need to call this type of activity out and stop it before more lives are lost.”
