DUBLIN City Council has supported a Sinn Féin Emergency Motion to establish a task force to tackle fireworks in the city.
Sinn Féin Dublin City Councillor Daithí Doolan said he was delighted that his party’s motion had received unanimous support.
“It sends out a clear message that time is up for those involved in buying, selling or distributing fireworks,” he said. “Communities across Dublin have been terrorised by fireworks since August. This is totally unacceptable and immediate action must be taken.
“We tabled tonight’s Emergency Motion in an attempt to force a coordinated response to this terror. We need Dublin City Council, Dublin Fire Brigade, gardaí and youth services all working together to end the nightly fear of fireworks.
“The gardaí need to be properly resourced to respond swiftly, using all powers available to them. Too many calls from the public are met with apologies that the gardaí have no personnel or no cars available.
