Gardaí commenced an investigation following an incident of the unauthorised taking of a car in the Coolock, Dublin 17 area of Dublin in the early hours of Wednesday 16th September.
On the evening of Thursday 17th September 2026, shortly before 8.00pm, Gardaí from Mountjoy and Blanchardstown Traffic Unit were subsequently involved in a related managed containment operation when a number of dangerous driving episodes involving the stolen car, including driving against the flow of traffic, were observed on the M50 and in the Whitehall, Finglas, and Ballymun areas of Dublin.
During the course of the operation, at the junction of the M1 and the R132, the stolen car rammed an official Garda vehicle. The stolen vehicle was brought to a controlled stop.
No injuries were reported at the time.
Two male juveniles (aged in their late teens) were arrested at the scene and detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in the DMR North area.
One of the males has since been charged and was scheduled to appear before the Dublin Children’s Court this morning, Friday 18th September.
The other arrested male was released pending a file to the Youth Diversion Programme.
