Over the course of the last 10 days, commencing on Saturday, April 18, Revenue officers at Dublin Airport have seized over 239kg of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of over €4.7 million.
Nine separate detections were made by Revenue officers with the assistance of Revenue detector dogs Dara and Lusaí.
In each case the illicit drugs were discovered concealed in vacuum packed packages within the baggage of passengers who had disembarked flights originating from Thailand.
The latest detection occurred on Monday (27th) when Revenue officers, with the assistance of Revenue detector dog Lusaí, intercepted four passengers.
Large quantities of cannabis were discovered in each passenger’s luggage, totalling approximately 79kg.
The passengers, ranging in ages from 20s to 40s, were traveling from Bangkok, via Doha.
All nine passengers involved in the seizures over the 10-day period were subsequently arrested by An Garda Síochána under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 and have since been charged.
Gardai say investigations are continuing.
