Gardaí from the Dublin Metropolitan Region (DMR) West Functional Area conducted a Day of Action on Friday, 22nd August, targeting electric bikes, electric motorbikes and electric vehicles suspected of being used in criminal activity.
A total of nine residences were searched in the Clondalkin, Ballyfermot, Rathcoole and Blanchardstown areas in an operation led by DMR West – Serious Crime South Functional Area with support from local Community Engagement members.
These searches resulted in the seizure of:
• €10,000 of liquid THC (subject to analysis)
• Electric scooters – 6
• Electric bikes – 7
• Diesel scrambler – 1
• Electric Surron scrambler – 1
• Bicycle – 1
• UAV drone – 1
• Cannabis – €500
The seized drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for examination and analysis.
A male (20s) was arrested and subsequently charged with an offence under the Road Traffic Act 1961 and bailed to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice next month.
Three other individuals were arrested on foot of live bench warrants.
Investigations are ongoing.
The Day of Action came under Operation Meacán, the aim of which is to tackle the use of electric motorbikes, e-scooters and e-bikes which are being used for criminal activity including drug distribution, money laundering, transporting firearms, Drug Related Intimidation (DRI) and other serious offences.
These are often driven on footpaths, parks and laneways in order to avoid detection by An Garda Síochána.
